They explain "We were so close to all our closest people all weekend, which afforded a lot of personal touches. We wanted to show our gratitude to our friends and family for not only bringing us together but travelling out to our new home to celebrate our love."Īnother element that made the day truly special was the intimacy of having their closest friends and family on-site. We also wanted all of our events to be highly social, inclusive of all our guests, and generally just a laid-back, good time. "We wanted to show to our guests why we ultimately moved to Washington State in 2020. The newlywed's biggest priority was to plan a weekend that would bring all their favourite people together, to have a lot of fun and experience the charm of the Pacific Northwest that James and Emily fell in love with. And with that, we wanted to complement the nature we were surrounded by during each event," they say. "We absolutely love the rugged and understated beauty of the Pacific Northwest. The couple rented the inn for the weekend exclusively for their guests and it was this idyllic venue and surroundings that inspired their wedding aesthetic. The ceremony and entire wedding day took place in a lodge called Captain Whidbey, a historical hotel on Whidbey Island in the Puget Sound. Their favourite ceremony reading of the day was the vows that James and Emily wrote for each other. Here comes the bride! Walking arm in arm with her father, Emily chose an especially personal and meaningful song to walk down the aisle to - Somewhere Over The Rainbow. The waistcoat, a few shades lighter, complemented the neutral sand-coloured tie, a shade we saw in the stationery suite, and finished it with a fresh floral buttonhole. James opted for a dapper three-piece suit in a charcoal shade. The back dipped exquisitely in a cowl shape, while a detachable lace train glided beautifully around her silhouette. She chose a chic gown, with a beautiful boatneck style and three-quarter length sleeves finished with lace detail. The following weekend James planned a surprise engagement party for me with our close friends and family in Chicago."Įmily's bridal style speaks of simplicity and elegance. "James dropped on one knee after we finished the delicious dinner he prepared in our apartment in Greenpoint, Brooklyn after we had returned home from a long day of travel from Hawaii, where everyone suspected we would get engaged! As soon as I said yes, we popped Champagne and spent the weekend celebrating together. The proposal - including the gorgeous ring - was a total surprise! It was intimate, personal, and absolutely perfect according to Emily. We went on our first date shortly after and the rest is history!" said Emily. But guess what, that didn’t stick either! We met one final time at our friend’s DJ set at an underground bar in Brooklyn, where James finally asked for my number. "We met again at a friend’s Halloween party in 2017 after we had both moved to New York City. And we love this stylish wedding stationery suite in neutral tones with personal touches!Įmily and James, our real wedding couple from Washington, met through friends over and over again until it finally stuck! They initially met during a night out while both living in Chicago in 2011, but the timing wasn’t right. Wow, just look at that climbing floral arrangement bursting with bright autumnal hues. Ryan Flynn Photography captured all the magical elements that Mother Nature provided, so without further ado let's go up, up and away - it's destination wedding time! Set in a historic venue surrounded by nature, we witness a day that was influenced by the love of the outdoors and the love for family and friends! Their wedding transport whisked them away high above the clouds whilst their marquee wedding reception was celebrated under a starry night sky. Buckle up, we are heading stateside to Whidbey Island, Washington for Emily and James' wedding.
